Labor Law: representation of labor unions in all aspects of union functions

Experience

Attorney Summar C. Sparks has practiced labor law exclusively on behalf of union since joining the firm in 2020.

Prior to joining the firm, Attorney Sparks, taught first-year writing as an adjunct instructor at several colleges and universities in the Boston area. After witnessing first-hand the challenging working conditions of adjunct professors, she became involved in a union organizing campaign and served on the bargaining committee that secured the new unit its first contract. This experience led her to become a faculty member organizer for her union, helping organize graduate students at several Boston universities. Her bargaining committee experiences inspired her to attend law school at Boston University, where she was designated a Paul J. Liacos Scholar for her second-year academic achievements, and received the Stuart H. Bompey Scholarship based on her academic performance as well as her interest in employment and labor law.

At Boston University Law School, Attorney Sparks served as a Note Editor for the Public Interest Law Journal and qualified for the Supreme Judicial Court’s Pro Bono Honor Roll through her volunteer efforts at the Center for Law and Education and Greater Boston Legal Services Consumer Rights Unit. She also participated in the BU Civil Litigation program, securing a client a favorable verdict in a jury trial in Boston Housing Court. In the summers, she interned at the U.S. Department of Labor Office of the Solicitor and the Massachusetts Department of Labor Relations.
